President William Ruto is expected to address the nation on Thursday evening in a Special National Address from State House, Nairobi, a move that has already sparked widespread interest across the country.
State House announced that the address will be delivered at 7:00 p.m., although it did not reveal the specific subject the President will discuss.
The announcement comes at a time when the country is facing several important political, economic, and social developments.
While details of the speech remain unclear, State House indicated that the address will focus on the country’s future development path and the opportunities that could be achieved through an ambitious long-term vision.
The President’s speech follows the recent presentation of a report titled Developing a New National Vision: Journey to a First World Economy.
The report is expected to serve as the foundation for a new national development framework that could eventually succeed Vision 2030, Kenya’s long-standing development blueprint that has guided government planning and economic policy since 2008.
When receiving the report at State House last week, President Ruto said he was encouraged by many of the proposals it contained.
He noted that several of the ideas discussed in the document align with policies that his administration has already begun implementing.
Among them are the National Infrastructure Fund and the Sovereign Wealth Fund, which he described as important tools in Kenya’s long-term economic transformation.
According to the President, these institutions are part of a broader strategy aimed at helping Kenya become a competitive first-world economy in the future.
He also said the government would carefully review the recommendations contained in the report and invited Kenyans to contribute their views before any final decisions are made.
The address also comes at a politically sensitive period as activity ahead of the 2027 General Election continues to intensify.
Political realignments, party defections, and discussions about future leadership positions have become increasingly common as leaders position themselves for the next electoral contest.
At the same time, many Kenyans are expected to listen closely for any comments on the country’s security situation, which has remained a major topic of public discussion in recent weeks.
Attention has also been drawn to ongoing speculation about the relationship between President Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki. Reports recently claimed that some responsibilities previously handled by the Deputy President’s office had been reassigned to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
Kindiki dismissed the claims as false and later shared images of a private meeting with President Ruto at State House, a move seen by many as an effort to demonstrate unity within the country’s top leadership.
