Political Ringside explores Sifuna’s remarks and the future of ODM with analyst Lennox Ndeda

Political Ringside sparked fresh debate about the future of the Orange Democratic Movement after Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s recent remarks exposed growing divisions inside the party ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Political commentator Lennox Ndeda warned that ODM risks falling into confusion and internal instability if its leaders fail to settle questions surrounding leadership, alliances and the party’s overall direction.

During the discussion, Ndeda questioned how ODM handled recent leadership changes following the death of one of its long-serving figures. He argued that the process raised concerns about transparency and party procedures, leaving supporters with doubts about whether the party is fully united.

According to him, the situation has exposed weaknesses within ODM at a time when political parties are beginning to reorganise for the next election cycle.

Even with the criticism, Ndeda maintained that Sifuna remains one of the most influential voices within ODM. He said the Nairobi Senator continues to shape political conversations and attract attention from both supporters and opponents. However, he cautioned that strong public statements alone may not be enough to keep the party stable if internal disagreements continue to widen.

A major point of discussion was Sifuna’s indication that he could work with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in efforts to challenge President William Ruto in 2027.

Ndeda dismissed the idea as a political strategy driven more by opposition to Ruto than by a shared vision for the country.

He argued that alliances formed without a clear agenda often collapse because leaders involved may not agree on policies or long-term goals.

The analyst also spoke about the growing influence of Gen Z voters in Kenya’s political space.

He warned that political parties risk misunderstanding younger voters if they assume social media trends automatically translate into electoral support.

According to Ndeda, many young people are now demanding accountability, honesty and practical solutions to economic challenges rather than political slogans or temporary alliances.

He added that younger voters are paying closer attention to issues such as unemployment, corruption, governance and the rising cost of living. Because of this, he argued that parties hoping to attract Gen Z support must present serious policy proposals instead of focusing only on political drama.

Ndeda further claimed that President Ruto currently appears more organised politically because of his continued national engagements and development-focused tours across the country.

In comparison, he described the opposition as reactive and lacking a united strategy ahead of 2027.

He also advised Sifuna to strengthen his political base and focus on consolidating support within ODM before pursuing wider national ambitions.

According to Ndeda, political leaders must move away from populist rhetoric and focus more on governance, economic recovery and long-term planning if they hope to gain public trust.

Political Ringside has increasingly become a platform where tough political discussions and criticism are openly aired, reflecting the growing national debate over the direction of Kenya’s opposition politics ahead of the next election.
