Nyandarua County beware of academic fraud and betrayal of public trust

By Nyandarua Youth League

A shadow of profound deceit lengthens over the political landscape of Nyandarua County with one of the 2027 gubernatorial aspirants, Faith Gitau, caught in a scandal of breath-taking audacity.

At the heart of this gathering storm lie allegations of academic fraud so shameful that they strike at the very foundation of public service integrity.

Yet this is a person who has the guts to take on Simba Wetu, Rigathi Gachagua on account of imagined defamation.

It is widely known that the degree upon which Gitau hopes to build her political career has not earned through scholarly pursuit but was instead acquired through an elaborate con, studied for and secured by another person.

This is a deception that renders her utterly lacking the credentials for the office she holds, let alone the governorship to which she aspires.

This barefaced betrayal of public trust is compounded by a staggering display of political hubris.

While her fake qualifications threaten to collapse under the weight of scrutiny, Gitau has seen fit to drag former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to court on what can only be described as trumped-up charges of defamation.

The spectacle is one of profound irony, the irony of a politician whose own legitimacy is built on quicksand and one attempting to use the hallowed instruments of justice to attack a leader of established stature.

This legal joke reeks of a desperate diversion, as it is a mere theatrical attempt to deflect attention from the rotting beams of her fraudulent foundations.

The details of the alleged scheme, as brought to light by concerned academics, reveal a pattern of systematic deceit.

Reports indicate manipulation of student identities, use of a counterfeit examination card bearing her photograph attached to another individual’s details, and the orchestrated efforts of an accomplice to circumvent legitimate academic processes.

This was not a momentary lapse in judgment but a premeditated and carefully executed fraud, designed to confer an unearned legitimacy and open doors to power that should have remained firmly closed.

To then present oneself as a champion of the people, while the very certificate on which one’s eligibility rests is a lie, constitutes a fundamental violation of the covenant between leader and citizen.

Faith’s actions evoke the behaviour of the bearded vulture, a creature known for its relentless scavenging.

This bird of prey circles high above, waiting to descend and pick at the bones of others. Her litigious assault on a political figure of Gachagua’s calibre, while her own house is in such disarray, aligns perfectly with this metaphor.

It is a strategy of aggression masquerading as defence and a cynical ploy that insults the intelligence of the electorate while clogging the judicial system with a matter of spectacular bad faith.

The implications of the scandal of Nyandarua’s Mama County extend far beyond one individual’s political survival.

Her case serves is a symptom of a broader disease and a culture of impunity where the ends of power are seen to justify any means, including the wholesale fabrication of one’s credentials.

It represents an insult to every student who has toiled honestly for their qualifications and to every educator who upholds the integrity of their institution.

It is an insult to every citizen who deserves representatives whose accomplishments are real, not rented or forged.

A moment of reckoning is now unavoidable. The relevant institutions including the University of Nairobi, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations must act with swift and uncompromising resolve.

A full forensic audit of the academic records in question is an absolute necessity if we are to restore any semblance of institutional credibility.

The people of Nyandarua, and indeed all Kenyans, are watching. They deserve leaders whose authority is derived from truth and merit, not chicanery and bold-faced deception.

The dubious legal charade made by Nyandarua Woman Representative must be immediately withdrawn for it is nothing but an abuse of jurisprudence.

More importantly, Faith Gitau must be held to the highest standard of accountability.

Political leadership is a privilege earned through demonstrated character and proven competence but not a prize to be won through forgery and audacious deception.
