New report reveals why MP Charles Were avoided his usual car before his murder

The tragic death of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were shocked the nation on April 30, 2025. As more information comes out about what happened before he was killed, it has become clear that the MP had a feeling something was not right.

His final actions show he was trying to protect himself, but unfortunately, that instinct could not save his life. On the evening of his death, Were had just finished a long day at Parliament. He left the building around 6:00 pm. Instead of heading directly home like he usually did, he made a stop at a popular joint along Jakaya Kikwete Road. There, he had a light meal and appeared to be in a calm mood.

What happened next has raised many questions. He decided not to use his usual car. Instead, he switched to a more low-profile Toyota Camry. The reasons for this sudden change are still not fully understood, but it is believed he might have suspected he was being followed or targeted.

There had been some concerns about his safety in recent weeks. Choosing a different car may have been his way of trying to stay ahead of anyone who might have been tracking him. Sadly, this last-minute decision did not prevent what was coming.

After getting into the Camry with his driver and bodyguard, they drove towards Langata using Valley Road. Everything seemed normal until they reached the City Mortuary roundabout. Traffic had stopped due to a red light, and the car came to a halt like all the others. It was at this moment that the attackers made their move. A motorcycle carrying two men approached the car. The one on the back of the bike pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots into the car, hitting Were in the chest at least five times.

The shooting was fast and caught everyone by surprise. After the shots were fired, the attackers sped off on the motorcycle and vanished into the night. Despite the terrifying attack, both the driver and the bodyguard were not harmed. The driver immediately rushed the wounded MP to Nairobi Hospital, but it was too late. Charles Ong’ondo Were was pronounced dead on arrival. The police have described this killing as targeted and planned in advance.

However, the motive remains unknown. They are still investigating and trying to understand why someone would want the MP dead.Witnesses at the scene confirmed that the gunman acted quickly and seemed to know exactly what he was doing.

The use of a motorcycle made the escape easy and almost impossible to trace at the time. The murder has left many Kenyans in disbelief. People across the country are mourning his death and demanding that those responsible be brought to justice. The police have promised to follow every lead and ensure that the truth is revealed. The nation waits for answers, hoping that this brutal killing will not go unpunished.
