A youthful political activist has launched a sharp public critique against Orange Democratic Movement Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, accusing him of causing division and weakening the party’s position within the Broad-Based Government.
The activist, Kasmuel Mcoure, shared his concerns through a post on X, where he directly challenged Sifuna for allegedly spreading false information about the party’s plan regarding its involvement in the government arrangement.
According to Mcoure, Sifuna wrongly claimed that the late party leader, Raila Odinga, had ordered ODM to withdraw from the Broad-Based Government in 2026, a statement the activist insists is untrue and misleading.

Mcoure argued that such remarks do not reflect the official position of the party and instead create unnecessary tension within the coalition. He said the claims risk confusing ODM supporters and harming the unity that the party is trying to maintain as it navigates a sensitive political environment.
In his view, Sifuna’s conduct goes against efforts to strengthen cooperation within the government, especially at a time when ODM needs to project stability and direction after the passing of Raila Odinga.
The activist went further and accused Sifuna of engaging in what he described as increasingly deceptive behavior. He claimed that the Secretary General has recently been aligning himself with leaders who are pushing a one-term message against President William Ruto.
Mcoure said this narrative is not supported by the party and only serves to weaken ODM’s cohesion at a time when clarity and unity are most needed.
He added that such actions risk isolating the party from important national discussions and damaging its relationship with key partners in government.
Mcoure also linked Sifuna’s actions to ODM’s recent electoral loss in the Kariobangi North Ward by-election. He alleged that Sifuna associated himself with opposition figures and ignored official party campaign activities, leading to a poor performance at the polls.
According to the activist, this behavior showed a lack of commitment to the party’s goals and contributed to the defeat in a seat ODM had hoped to recapture.
In his closing message, Mcoure reminded Sifuna of his responsibility as the party’s spokesperson. He said the role demands clear and consistent political guidance, not attempts to act as a separate center of influence.
He warned that the party has other leaders who are ready to take up the Secretary General position if Sifuna continues to depart from ODM’s ideology and objectives.
Mcoure concluded by stating that the rightful custodian of the party’s vision is now Dr. Oburu Oginga, who took over that role following the death of his brother, Raila Odinga.
