Controversial blogger Maverick Aoko has sparked a storm after claiming that the push to impeach Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has quietly come to an end following what she describes as a secret deal.
In a post on her X handle, Aoko stated that the impeachment “dies” after a meeting at Raila Odinga’s home in Karen. She alleged that a settlement worth 400 million shillings was reached during the meeting. According to her post, the talks were led by veteran politician Fred Gumo and attended by Nairobi County Speaker Ken Ng’ondi, Kilimani MCA Moses Ogeto, and a person she identified only as Odalo from Mathare.
Her claims come at a time when Nairobi politics is tense. Just a few days earlier, 96 Nairobi MCAs had approved a motion to begin impeachment proceedings against Sakaja, signaling strong intent to hold him accountable for alleged mismanagement and other issues that have caused friction in the county assembly.
This development had raised expectations that the governor would soon face an impeachment vote, but Aoko’s statement suggests the process has now been derailed through political negotiations behind the scenes.
The blogger’s post is being widely shared and debated online, with some Kenyans taking her claims seriously while others remain skeptical.
There is no independent confirmation of the alleged meeting or the 400 million shilling payout she mentions.
None of the named individuals have issued a statement to confirm or deny her claims. At the same time, the county assembly has not made any public announcement to indicate that the impeachment process has been formally dropped.
Aoko is known for her outspoken and sometimes controversial posts, which often spark heated political debate. Her history of making bold allegations means that some view her as a whistleblower while others dismiss her as a provocateur.
This latest claim adds to the speculation about what is happening behind closed doors in Nairobi’s political circles, especially given the high stakes surrounding the governorship of the capital city.
The formal record shows that the impeachment process remains alive, with MCAs having taken steps to move it forward.
Whether it will proceed to a vote or quietly fade away remains to be seen. Aoko’s post has, however, brought attention to the possibility of a deal that could have far-reaching political implications.
