Geoffrey Wauna, an aspirant for the Makadara parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election, has raised concern over the deteriorating condition of Camp Toyoyo Stadium in Jericho, Makadara Constituency, calling for greater attention to the public sports facility.
Wauna shared photos of the stadium on social media showing the poor condition of the artificial turf. Large sections of the playing surface appear worn out, with parts of the turf damaged or missing and the ground underneath exposed.
The condition of the pitch has raised questions about how the facility has been maintained over the years.
In his post, Wauna described the state of the stadium as disappointing and questioned why a facility that received significant public investment should be allowed to deteriorate.
He noted that Camp Toyoyo was an important sports project associated with the leadership of former Makadara Member of Parliament Benson Mutura.
The stadium was refurbished and officially opened in July 2015 following the installation of an artificial turf, changing rooms and other improvements. The project was mainly supported through the Constituency Development Fund, with estimates of the cost at the time ranging from about Sh50 million to nearly Sh90 million.
The investment was intended to provide residents, particularly young people, with a suitable place for sporting activities.
Makadara and the wider Eastlands area have a long history of producing football players and supporting grassroots football.
Camp Toyoyo therefore became an important venue for local teams, young players and football supporters.

He pointed out that constituency development funding is meant to support projects that benefit local communities and said public facilities should continue serving residents long after they are completed.
He particularly focused on the impact the condition of Camp Toyoyo could have on young people in Makadara. According to his argument, the stadium should provide a clean and suitable environment where young players can train, compete and develop their skills.
