A fresh wave of appointments and reappointments has been made to several key public institutions, with Cabinet Secretaries and Chief Justice Martha Koome naming new officials to boards and councils across different sectors.
The changes were contained in an official Gazette Notice dated September 11, outlining a number of appointments covering cybersecurity, education, innovation, tourism, water, agriculture and energy.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen appointed Lorna Ogolla Omondi, daughter of the late General Francis Omondi Ogolla, to the board of the National Cybersecurity Agency (NCA).
Lorna was appointed alongside Jerop Joy Kibor, with both set to serve for a three-year term.General Ogolla, who died in a helicopter crash in April 2024, previously served as Kenya’s Chief of Defence Forces.
His daughter’s appointment places her in a public institution dealing with an increasingly important area as Kenya continues to strengthen its approach to cybersecurity and digital threats.
Chief Justice Martha Koome also made an appointment, naming Mbaabu Kelvin Mutuma as a member of the Auctioneers Licensing Board.
His three-year term took effect on September 7.At the Kenya National Innovation Agency, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi appointed Avedi Evans Kituzi as chairperson.
He will serve alongside Ali Nilfat Kassim, Yienga Julius, Magdaline Chepkemoi and Abass Jihan Faisal, who were appointed as members of the agency.
Their three-year terms begin on September 11.
The education sector also saw several changes. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba appointed Collins Saitaga to the council of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) for three years.Ogamba also appointed Prof John Shiundu as chairperson of the Bomet University Council.
He will work with Emily Kwamboka Nyagarama, Rose Chepkorir, Fredrick Njoroge, Reuben C. Butaki and Amos Okello, who were appointed as council members.At the Kajiado National Polytechnic, Ogamba appointed Moses Narok as the non-executive chairperson of the council.
The appointment also revoked his earlier appointment as a council member, effectively changing his position within the institution.
The tourism sector was also affected by the latest changes. Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano reappointed Joseph Sarisar and Dorcas Ayoma Mbalanya to the Tourism Fund Board of Trustees. Their new terms will run for another three years.Water Cabinet Secretary Eric Mugaa made changes to two water agencies.
He appointed Khadua Jimmy Kahindi as the non-executive chairperson of the Coast Water Works Development Agency while revoking an earlier Gazette Notice issued in 2024.
Mugaa also reappointed Everlyne Nadio to the board of the North Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency for another three-year term.In the agriculture sector, Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe appointed Chebii Kilel, Emmanuel Leina Tasur and Rosemary Kithira Muroria to the Coffee Board of Kenya. The three will serve for three years.Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi also renewed the terms of Judith Khamala Makasi Nyauncho and Kirwa Bitok on the board of the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO). Their reappointments will keep them in office for another three years.The latest Gazette Notice therefore brings a number of changes to public institutions, with some officials taking up new positions while others return for fresh terms.
The appointments cover institutions responsible for important areas of government operations, including education, innovation, cybersecurity, water management, tourism, agriculture and electricity transmission.
