KPC names Pius Mwendwa acting MD as Joe Sang faces probe over fuel scandal

The Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) has appointed Pius Mwendwa as acting Managing Director following the arrest of MD Joe Sang.

In a statement on Friday, Board Chair Faith Boinett assured stakeholders that operations remain stable and uninterrupted.

Mwendwa, who serves as General Manager for Finance, will oversee the role temporarily as investigations continue.

Sang’s arrest forms part of a wider probe into alleged procurement of substandard fuel, which has also implicated senior officials, including Petroleum PS Mohamed Liban and EPRA Director General Daniel Kiptoo. Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are examining fuel supply chains, procurement procedures, and possible collusion.

Authorities are also assessing whether due process was followed, with potential abuse of office charges looming for those found responsible.
