Local newspapers reported a frightening altercation at a high‑end Nairobi restaurant where Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai allegedly pulled out a firearm during a confrontation with Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
The incident happened at Cedars Lebanese Restaurant in Kilimani when Alai spotted Babu Owino seated for lunch and approached him, accusing the MP of being behind online attacks against his wife.
The exchange quickly escalated from a heated argument to a dangerous moment.Eyewitnesses said Alai drew a pistol, cocked it and pointed it at Babu Owino, attempting to fire several times.
The weapon reportedly malfunctioned, preventing any shots from being fired. Panic spread among diners as the situation unfolded.

A senior police officer dining at the same venue, identified as Mohamed Amin Shurie of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, intervened swiftly, wrestled the gun from Alai and disarmed him, potentially averting a tragedy.
After being disarmed, Alai left the restaurant, and Babu Owino also departed shortly after regaining his composure.
The confrontation has reignited public concern about firearms in social settings and drawn attention to Babu Owino’s own past firearm controversies, including a high‑profile 2020 incident in which he was charged in connection with a nightclub shooting that left DJ Evolve seriously injured.
That case has seen numerous legal proceedings and public debate over accountability and justice.
At the time of reporting, efforts to reach Robert Alai for comment had been unsuccessful, while Babu Owino’s lawyer said he would consult with his client before issuing a statement.
No injuries were reported from the restaurant incident, but witnesses described it as one of the most frightening scenes they had seen in a public eatery in Nairobi.
