The Jubilee Party is preparing for the 2027 general election by setting its direction and strengthening its leadership around one main goal of offering a strong alternative government, in a recent interview on the Political Ringside hosted by Fridah Mong’are, the party’s National Youth Chairperson Angel Mbuthia spoke openly about the party’s future, its leaders, and the role young people will play in shaping the next election.
Mbuthia made it clear that Jubilee is backing Dr. Fred Matiang’i as its preferred presidential candidate for 2027.
She described him as a leader who understands how government works and who can solve problems using experience and discipline.
During the time of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Matiang’i served in key ministries such as Education and Interior. Mbuthia said his record shows that he can make tough decisions and deliver results.
She added that Kenya is facing fast changes, including new technology like artificial intelligence, and needs a leader who can guide the country forward instead of letting it fall behind.
She also explained why Uhuru Kenyatta remains the leader of Jubilee even after leaving office.
According to her, party members and delegates have repeatedly confirmed his leadership through National Delegates Conferences.
She said Uhuru supports young people and allows them to take more responsibility while he offers guidance.
Mbuthia stressed that Jubilee follows its constitution and that leadership can only change through proper democratic processes.
She said, there is no crisis within the party and Uhuru’s presence brings unity and stability.
Mbuthia spoke strongly about the challenges Jubilee faces as an opposition party. She accused the current government under William Ruto of weakening political parties by focusing too much on money and power instead of strong structures and ideas.
She mentioned that Jubilee has faced court battles for more than two years, which she believes are meant to interfere with its growth.
Despite this, the party continues to work with a strong team that includes its Secretary General Joshua Mshinda Kenta and other senior leaders.
Youth involvement was a major theme in the discussion.
Mbuthia said young people pushed for Matiang’i to return to active politics, especially during the protests in June 2024.
They see him as fair, energetic, and serious about public service. She gave the example of improvements in education during his time in office, such as better exam systems and school programs.
To her, this shows he can lead with both care and firmness.
She also shared that Jubilee has changed over time by learning from past mistakes and embracing new ideas from the younger generation.
The party now uses digital tools and focuses more on innovation. Mbuthia believes that if Matiang’i becomes president in 2027, party rules will require him to take over as party leader as well.
On a personal level, Mbuthia announced her plan to run for Woman Representative in Kiambu County.
Her goals include supporting young women, improving access to sanitary products, and fighting violence against women and femicide.
