The suspect arrested in Uganda over the murder of Dr Victoria Mutiso is also facing allegations of running a separate scheme targeting job seekers with promises of securing teaching positions through supposed connections at the Teacher Service Commission (TSC).
Police sources indicate that the suspect allegedly presented himself as someone capable of helping desperate teachers secure employment, asking them to pay large sums of money for the promised placements.
Those seeking primary school positions were reportedly asked to pay KSh180,000, while applicants hoping to secure secondary school jobs were allegedly charged KSh275,000.
The suspect is said to have gained the trust of some of the job seekers by portraying himself as being connected to influential people in government.
His alleged association with politicians reportedly helped create the impression that he had access to senior officials who could influence recruitment and deployment.
One of the politicians linked to the suspect is Molo MP Kuria Kimani.
The suspect reportedly accompanied the lawmaker to several constituency events in 2024, around the period when Kimani had parted ways with his personal assistant.
His regular appearance alongside the MP allegedly led some people to believe that he had become Kimani’s new personal assistant.
Investigators believe the perceived connection may have helped the suspect convince job seekers that he had the right networks to secure teaching positions.
The suspect is also alleged to have operated from offices associated with lawmakers at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).
He later reportedly moved his operations to Westlands after the promised teaching placements failed to materialise.
Some of the alleged victims say they became suspicious when the dates they had been given for their appointments passed without any communication or job offers.
According to the victims, attempts to reach the suspect later went unanswered, leaving them having lost substantial amounts of money.Kimani has since denied that the suspect was his personal assistant and sought to clarify the nature of their association.
The MP said he knew the man mainly as someone who helped connect legislators with media platforms, particularly for live studio interviews.
Kimani maintained that their relationship did not extend beyond such occasional engagements. He has also urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate the allegations and take action if sufficient evidence is established.
The allegations emerge amid investigations into the murder of Dr Victoria Mutiso, with two Kenyan suspects arrested in Uganda expected to be extradited to Kenya.
The two were among three suspects arrested in Kampala last Saturday.
The extradition process is expected to take up to three days, after which the suspects will reportedly be handed over to Interpol officers before being transferred to Kenyan police for prosecution.
The case has also attracted political attention following claims by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that the two officers had been hiding in Uganda.
Gachagua had alleged in a formal statement that Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen directed the DCI to facilitate the movement of the officers to Uganda.
The claims remain part of the wider circumstances surrounding the investigation, with authorities expected to establish the full chain of events and determine the responsibility of each suspect.
