US-based medic James Opande has broken his silence days following the circulation of controversial video involving a woman identified as Marion.
The footage, reportedly recorded while Marion was heavily intoxicated, was later leaked online without her consent, sparking widespread outrage.
On Wednesday, January 21, Opande issued a public statement on social media, acknowledging his wrongdoing and taking full responsibility for his actions.
“Both of us—myself and my sister Marion Naipei—made mistakes. I do not blame her or anyone else. As a man, I take full responsibility for my actions,” he stated.
Opande also apologized to Kenyans and to Geoffrey Mosiria, the man who intervened to defend Marion when the matter escalated online.
He admitted to being rude to Mosiria but emphasized that Mosiria’s actions were justified in standing up for the law.

“What he did was right—he stood up to defend my sister, because the sharing of such videos online is illegal,” Opande noted.
The medic acknowledged the personal and professional impact of the incident, expressing concern about his job, his U.S. visa, and the shame brought upon his family.
He further stated that he has instructed his lawyer to reach out to Marion to find a resolution outside of court.
He also asked the public to forgive both himself and Mosiria, emphasizing the importance of dialogue over social media escalation.
Opande has faced intense public backlash since the video surfaced online, with many Kenyans, particularly women, calling for his arrest and prosecution over violation of privacy and exploitation.
Marion has since come forward to share her side of the story, claiming that Opande spiked her drink during their meeting at a city club, leaving her disoriented and unable to fully comprehend what was happening at the time the video was recorded.
