Two arrested after detectives seize Sh4.6 million worth of cannabis Haul in Nakuru

A major drug trafficking operation was disrupted in Nakuru after detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) intercepted a vehicle carrying a large consignment of cannabis worth an estimated Sh4.62 million.

The operation led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of more than 150 kilograms of the illegal substance.

According to investigators, the operation was launched following a credible tip-off that a suspicious vehicle was being used to transport narcotics along the Eldoret–Nakuru Highway.

Acting on the information, detectives positioned themselves strategically along the route and waited for the vehicle to appear.

Shortly afterwards, officers spotted the targeted motor vehicle, registration number KDX 264K, and signalled the driver to stop for inspection.

However, instead of complying with the orders, the driver sped off, triggering a dramatic chase along the busy highway.Detectives immediately pursued the vehicle as it headed towards the Subukia area.

The pursuit continued for some distance before officers managed to bring the situation under control. In a tactical move, detectives deflated one of the vehicle’s front tyres, forcing it to slow down and eventually come to a stop.

Once the vehicle was immobilised, officers moved in and arrested the two occupants. The suspects were identified as David Wafula and Loise Akoth.

They were taken into custody as detectives began searching the vehicle.

During the search, officers discovered seven large sacks concealed inside the vehicle.

The sacks contained cannabis sativa weighing a total of 154 kilograms. Authorities estimated the street value of the recovered narcotics at approximately Sh4.62 million.

The seized cannabis was secured as evidence while the suspects were transported for further processing.

Investigators are expected to continue examining the case to determine whether the two suspects were acting alone or were part of a larger drug trafficking network operating within the region.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspects remain in custody pending their arraignment in court. The agency also reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking and dismantling criminal networks involved in the illegal narcotics trade.

The latest operation highlights the continued efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb the movement of illegal drugs across the country and protect communities from the harmful effects associated with narcotics abuse.
