The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), linked to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has started a countrywide mobilisation campaign after failing to launch the party as planned. The much-publicized event that was supposed to take place at Kasarani Sports Centre was cancelled, with the party claiming that the venue’s administration suddenly cancelled their booking.
This unexpected move forced the party to hold its first National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at its headquarters to come up with a new strategy.
After this meeting, the party issued a statement saying that its Secretary General, Cleophas Malala, had been directed to find a new venue for the party launch. The NEC wants the new venue to be private and suitable for the event, which they hope will now take place before the end of June 2025.
Once the venue is confirmed, the party has promised to inform its members and supporters of the new date and location.Despite the setback, the DCP leadership has not slowed down. Instead, they have launched what they call a grassroots mobilisation plan that will begin immediately.

The party is now focusing on building strong structures at the county and constituency levels. To do this, they will appoint interim county coordinators who will help set up offices in various parts of the country.
The aim is to create a strong physical presence across all regions, especially in areas where the party is not yet known or active.
The party believes that these grassroots offices will play a key role in building support and spreading the party’s message to the people. In the same statement, the DCP also invited individuals who wish to vie for political seats under the party’s banner to reach out to the party headquarters.
This move shows that the party is already preparing for the 2027 general election and wants to identify candidates early. In an effort to maintain order, the DCP NEC also made it clear that no office will be allowed to operate without approval from the national leadership.
Any office that does not receive this approval will be considered illegal. This is to ensure that the party speaks in one voice and operates under clear leadership.
Additionally, the DCP plans to start forums in all 47 counties targeting aspiring leaders. These forums will be led by the newly appointed county coordinators and will be used to plan political activities and encourage involvement from the grassroots level. With just two years to go before the next election, the DCP is trying to position itself as a serious political player and expand its reach across the country.
