Stephen Munyakho shares how a simple pay dispute turned into a life-changing tragedy

Stephen Munyakho has spoken about a painful memory from 9th April 2011 that changed his life forever. On that day, what started as a normal effort to collect his salary turned into a fatal fight.

According to Stephen, the disagreement began when he went to ask for his wages, but the man he was dealing with refused to let him leave and became aggressive.

Stephen said the man used strong and disrespectful words that made him very angry.

He tried to walk away and remain calm, but the situation kept getting worse. Stephen explained that the other man started a physical fight and during the scuffle, a knife came into play.

“It was his knife,” Stephen said, recalling how things turned violent. He says he was stabbed in both the hand and the thigh during the fight.

In a desperate moment, Stephen managed to grab the knife back and used it on the other man. He explained that it was not something he had planned and that the stabbing was not meant to cause death.

He described it as a simple misunderstanding that turned ugly and deadly.

Stephen made it clear that his actions were not done with the intention to kill. He said he was acting in the heat of the moment, trying to defend himself after being attacked.

He believes that the man might have survived if he had received medical attention on time. According to the doctor’s report, the man died mainly because of the amount of blood he lost, not directly because of the stab wounds.

That delay in getting treatment is what cost him his life.Reflecting on the incident, Stephen expressed deep regret.

He admitted that the whole situation was a result of anger and quick decisions that were not thought through.

“It wasn’t something I’m proud of,” he said. “It was a mistake, and I wish things had gone differently.”

He now lives with the pain of that day and hopes that others can learn from his story about how quickly small disputes can lead to serious consequences when emotions take over.
