Natembeya on the spot as senior officials linked to Ksh30M shady loans without approval

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya is under pressure after it was revealed that senior officials in his government received more than Kshs 30 million in unsecured public loans.

These loans were reportedly given without any proper paperwork or approval process, raising serious concerns among the public.

The issue has sparked anger, with many people questioning how such a large amount of money could be given out without following the law.

Sources inside the county assembly said that the loans were given to top officials and directors without any collateral. This means there was no security or guarantee for repayment, which goes against normal financial procedures.

The issue came to light during an internal audit, which uncovered irregularities in how the money was distributed and managed.

The County Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee is now investigating the matter.

Several senior officials have been summoned to explain how the loans were awarded and if there are any plans in place to recover the money.

Many people believe that the money could have been used for better purposes like improving health services, schools, or roads instead of benefiting a few powerful individuals.

Governor Natembeya, who promised honesty and transparency during his election campaigns, is now being asked to take tough action. He released a short statement saying his office will fully cooperate with the investigation.

He also assured the public that any misuse of county funds will be punished. Natembeya said that anyone found to have broken the law will be held personally responsible.

Civil society groups in the area are not satisfied with just the internal process. They want the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to step in and carry out a separate investigation.

According to them, this scandal is just a sign of a larger problem in how money is managed in the county government.

They are urging for urgent reforms and accountability to protect public resources from being abused again.
