Statehouse forced to drop Migori out of Ruto’s Nyanza schedule over fear of protests

Fresh reports have revealed how members of parliament from Migori County pushed President William Ruto to cancel his planned visit to the region during his upcoming Nyanza tour.

According to a report by the People’s Daily on Thursday, internal disagreements between the area MPs and Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko forced State House to make a quick decision to remove Migori from the president’s tour schedule.

The source indicated that the MPs were upset after Governor Ayacko met with President Ruto at State House without including them in the delegation, despite a previous agreement that all elected leaders would attend such meetings together. This breach of agreement angered the legislators, who felt sidelined and disrespected.

As a result, they vowed to boycott Ruto’s tour of Migori if it went ahead as planned. Fearing that such political drama and open divisions would embarrass the presidency, State House quickly acted by scrapping Migori County from the list of places the president will visit in the upcoming Nyanza trip.

The move was meant to reduce tension and avoid any possible confrontation or chaos that could emerge from the wrangles among the local leaders.

This decision, however, did not sit well with some leaders in Migori. Sources close to the county’s political circles said there was disappointment among certain officials who believed that the cancellation would cost the region development opportunities and attention from the national government.

Some leaders were reportedly angered by the MPs’ hard stance, saying that the infighting was denying locals the chance to benefit from the president’s development agenda.

President William Ruto is scheduled to visit parts of Nyanza ahead of the Jamhuri Day celebrations. The tour is seen as part of his ongoing efforts to win over the region, which has traditionally supported the opposition.

However, the drama in Migori shows that his attempts to unite and work with local leaders might still face challenges, especially where power struggles and political competition are involved. This incident once again exposes the deep cracks in the political leadership of Migori, where personal interests and rivalries appear to be stronger than unity and service to the people.
