Six men in custody following DCI operation targeting Kajiado gangs

Detectives have arrested six people suspected of being behind a series of gang-related crimes in Kajiado County.

The operation, which was led by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters, followed weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance.

According to investigators, the six suspects had been coordinating activities that spread fear among residents and contributed to a wave of insecurity in the county.

The breakthrough came when detectives intercepted five of the suspects in Kagio, Kirinyaga County.

They were traveling in a motor vehicle registered as KDK 864V and were believed to be on a surveillance mission.

Upon searching the car, police recovered several items suspected to be used in their operations, including a walkie talkie, different sim cards, mobile phones, surgical gloves, cellotapes, and sportlights.

The presence of such items raised suspicion that the group had been planning or executing criminal activities that required coordination and secrecy.

The five arrested in this incident were identified as Eliud Muiruri Ng’ang’a, David Mithamo, Peter Njoroge, Peter Muriuki Kabiru, and Joseph Wahome Kinuthia.

Not long after, the detectives extended their operation to Kiserian in Kajiado County, where they caught another suspect believed to be linked to the same gang.

The suspect, identified as James Ndirangu Wanjiru, was found in possession of an AK-47 rifle loaded with seven rounds of ammunition, a walkie talkie, a teargas canister, and several house-breaking tools.

The recovery of such weapons and equipment indicated that the group was heavily armed and potentially dangerous, raising fears about what they may have planned if they had not been stopped.

The arrests brought some relief to residents of Kajiado County, who have been raising concerns about the rise of gang activities and robberies in recent months.

Police believe that the group was not only involved in local criminal activities but may also have had wider connections, given that part of the group was arrested in Kirinyaga before linking up with others in Kajiado.

Investigations are still ongoing to establish whether they are part of a larger network operating across different counties.

All six suspects are currently being held in custody and will remain detained until they are formally charged in court.

The police have assured the public that the arrests are part of a broader effort to dismantle gangs and restore safety in areas where residents have felt threatened.

For now, detectives continue to piece together evidence from the items recovered to strengthen the case against the suspects and ensure justice is served.

This operation highlights the importance of intelligence-led policing, which enabled detectives to track, intercept, and stop suspects before more harm was done.

The arrests mark a significant step in tackling insecurity in Kajiado and surrounding regions, but authorities stress that more work remains in curbing gang activity across the country.
