A new political moment is unfolding after Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna announced a large public rally in Kitengela, Kajiado County.
This came only a few hours after the Orange Democratic Movement’s National Executive Committee decided to remove him from his role as Secretary General.
The quick move has drawn attention and raised questions about the direction of the party and Sifuna’s future.
Soon after the decision was made public in Mombasa, Sifuna shared a poster on his Facebook page announcing the rally. The event is part of what he calls the “Linda Mwananchi Tour” and is scheduled for Sunday, February 15, 2026, at 11:00am in Kitengela Town.
The timing of the announcement suggests that Sifuna is choosing to respond through political action rather than silence.
The rally is expected to bring together several well-known opposition figures. Among those listed are Siaya Governor James Orengo, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni and Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka.
A number of Members of Parliament aligned with the opposition wing are also expected to attend, showing that Sifuna still has support within certain circles.
ODM officially confirmed Sifuna’s removal earlier the same day. Deputy Secretary General Catherine Omanyo read out the NEC resolution and said she would serve in an acting capacity until a new Secretary General is chosen.
The party explained that the decision was based on concerns about discipline and leadership conduct. It emphasized that the party follows its constitution and that all members are subject to its rule.

Despite this, Sifuna appears ready to challenge the situation politically.
The Kitengela rally points to a plan focused on reaching ordinary citizens and building support at the grassroots level.
In recent weeks, he has spoken often about protecting party values and democratic space.
During a previous stop of the same tour in Busia, Sifuna defended former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, telling supporters that Raila raised leaders who are willing to stand firm for justice and the well-being of Kenyans.
Choosing Kajiado County for the rally is also important. The area is diverse and has become more competitive in elections.
Holding a major event there places Sifuna in a visible national discussion at a time when ODM is facing internal tension.
