Siaya Senator and Orange Democratic Movement leader Oburu Oginga is once again trending online after taking part in the popular weka mawe challenge.
The lighthearted trend has been circulating widely on social media, drawing participation from different public figures.
The challenge first gained attention through boxer Mbavu Destroyer, who is known for his bold talk before matches. He used the phrase to send a playful warning to his rival Majembe ahead of their fight.
In the now viral clip, Mbavu tells a young boy to place a stone on his shoulder while saying “weka mawe.” The simple phrase quickly caught on, turning into a meme and a fun online trend.
Oburu has now added his own version to the mix. In a video that has been widely shared, the senator is seen standing next to a young woman holding a piece of concrete.
Smiling, he asks her to say “weka mawe” as people around them cheer. He then adds the Gen Z phrase “ngumi ni mbwekse,” which sparks laughter from the crowd.
The senator, who has recently been making headlines for his strong political remarks as a senior figure in the Orange Democratic Movement, appears to be embracing online culture.
