Sesko strikes late as Manchester United edge Fulham in five-goal thriller

Manchester United continued their strong run under interim manager Michael Carrick with a dramatic 3–2 victory over Fulham at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The match was full of twists and emotions, ending with late celebrations for the home fans after a tense and thrilling finish.

United started the game with confidence and control.

They pressed Fulham early and kept possession well in midfield. Their efforts paid off in the first half when Bruno Fernandes delivered a well-placed free kick into the box.

Casemiro timed his run perfectly and powered a header past Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno to give United the lead.

The goal settled the home side and they went into the break looking comfortable. After halftime, United came out with the same intensity.

In the 56th minute, they doubled their advantage through Matheus Cunha. Casemiro played a clever no-look pass that split the Fulham defense, allowing Cunha to break into the area.

From a tight angle, the Brazilian struck the ball firmly into the net to make it 2–0. At that moment, United appeared to be fully in control of the match.

Fulham, however, refused to give up. They pushed forward and began to test United’s defense.

A goal by Jorge Cuenca was ruled out after a VAR review, which frustrated the visitors.

Despite that setback, Fulham kept fighting and eventually found a way back into the game. In the 85th minute, Raul Jimenez calmly converted a penalty after he was fouled in the box, reducing the deficit and giving Fulham renewed hope.

The drama increased in stoppage time when Fulham equalized. Kevin picked up the ball on the right side, cut inside, and curled a brilliant shot into the far corner from outside the area.

The goal stunned Old Trafford and seemed to suggest United had thrown away a winning position.

United showed great character in response. Just two minutes later, Bruno Fernandes found Benjamin Sesko with a sharp pass inside the box.

Sesko kept his composure and fired a powerful shot into the roof of the net from close range. The goal sparked wild celebrations and sealed a third straight win for Carrick since taking charge.

This victory continued United’s unbeaten run to seven league matches and lifted them to fourth place in the table. Their push for Champions League qualification now looks realistic, which is remarkable considering Carrick only took over recently and was dismissed from Middlesbrough last year.

Off the pitch, the atmosphere was mixed. Before kickoff, hundreds of supporters protested against the club’s owners, criticizing the Glazer family and the lack of progress under new leadership.

Despite the unrest, Carrick’s decisions on the pitch proved effective once again.

With wins over Manchester City, Arsenal, and now Fulham, Carrick’s impact has been immediate. If this form continues, United’s leadership may have no choice but to seriously consider him for the job on a permanent basis.
