Secret saga of the Ksh 200M Karen fortress built by ex Major General Hussein Ali

Major General (Rtd) Mohammed Hussein Ali Kenya’s first military officer to serve as Police Commissioner (2004–2009) and later Postmaster-General (2009–2012) personally commissioned.

In 1977, Ali enlisted in the Kenya Army as a cadet. He rose steadily through the ranks, serving as a military attaché in Zimbabwe and Uganda, commanding the Kenya Army Parachute Battalion, and leading the 50 Air Cavalry Battalion in Embakasi. He also chaired the Ulinzi Stars football club.

Promoted to Brigadier in 2003 and Major General in 2005, his military career emphasized discipline and operational command.

In April 2004, President Mwai Kibaki appointed him Commissioner of the Kenya Police the first outsider from the military to hold the role.Ali hit the ground running: he disbanded the notorious Kenya Police Reserve, overhauled recruitment for transparency, and purged corrupt senior officers. He intensified operations against the Mungiki sect, a banned criminal gang accused of decapitating police.

In September 2009, amid criticism, he was reassigned as Chief Executive (Postmaster General) of the Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK), serving until 2020. His board cited performance issues in his final years, prompting his retirement after 43 years in public service. It seems being the Police Commissioner and later Post Master General pays well.
