The family of the late Malava MP Malulu Injendi has launched a scathing attack on Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, accusing him of betraying their son, Ryan Injendi, during the recently concluded UDA primaries.
Speaking at his late father’s home in Lugusi, Ryan addressed a gathering of elders and supporters where he conceded defeat but claimed the process had been manipulated.
He alleged that Mudavadi orchestrated his downfall by dispatching allies from Nairobi to bribe voters in favor of his close associate, David Ndakwa.
Ryan stated that just as Mudavadi had denied his late father fair political support, he too had now suffered the same betrayal.
According to him, the powerful office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary stood in the way of youthful leadership, branding him a victim of political exclusion.
Despite his frustrations, Ryan maintained that his decision to concede was for the sake of peace within the party and stability in the constituency.
The UDA primaries in Malava were tense, with widespread claims of voter bribery, intimidation, and the use of hired goons by rival camps.
When the votes were tallied, David Ndakwa emerged victorious with 8,756 votes, cementing his position as the UDA flagbearer.
Ryan Injendi followed closely with 6,262 votes, while Leonard Shimaka garnered 3,582 and Simon Kangwana 2,341.
A total of 20,941 ballots were cast in the primaries, highlighting the high stakes of the contest.
Ndakwa, a former West Kabras MCA and Kakamega county minority leader, is widely seen as a loyal ally of Mudavadi.
He now prepares to face stiff competition in the November 27 by-election, which is drawing national attention.
Among his rivals are Seth Panyako of DAP–K, lawyer Edgar Busiega of DCP, businessman Wilberforce Tuvei of Kenya Moja Movement Party, and Joab Manyasi of DNA.
The upcoming poll will determine who succeeds the late Malulu Injendi and takes charge of Malava’s representation in Parliament.
