Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has launched a scathing attack on the government over its handling of the Nyota Fund, accusing it of politicizing a program meant to uplift unemployed youth.
Speaking during a live interview on Citizen TV tonight, Sifuna claimed the disbursement of Nyota funds has been turned into United Democratic Alliance (UDA) rallies.
He argued that the initiative, funded by the World Bank, is being misused to advance partisan interests rather than serve its intended beneficiaries.
“We can pontificate about the Nyota programme, which, by the way, is an abuse of public resources,” Sifuna said.
“How can you turn the distribution of these resources funded by the World Bank which we all have to pay back into UDA rallies?
”His remarks come amid growing public scrutiny of the Nyota Fund, which was launched in November 2025 to support youth aged 18–29 with business grants, job placements, and savings schemes. While the program targets over 800,000 young Kenyans, critics have raised concerns about transparency, age restrictions, and political interference.
Sifuna’s comments reflect broader frustration among opposition leaders who feel the rollout lacks fairness and accountability.
He questioned why government officials are using public platforms to campaign under the guise of youth empowerment.

“This is not what the World Bank signed up for,” he added.
“We must separate development from politics.”
The senator’s remarks have sparked fresh debate online, with many Kenyans echoing his concerns.
Some have called for an independent audit of the fund’s operations, while others demand clearer criteria for beneficiary selection.
Sifuna’s warning may intensify calls for reform.Whether the government will respond remains to be seen, but tonight’s interview has reignited public interest in how youth programs are being managed and politicized.
