President William Ruto has praised what he called a historic turning point in Kenya–US relations after holding a series of high-level meetings with President Donald J. Trump in Washington, D.C.
He described the moment as one that would shape future cooperation between the two countries in a more focused and strategic way.
According to him, the discussions were warm, clear, and built on a shared desire to strengthen a partnership that has lasted for many years. In his statement, President Ruto thanked President Trump and the US government for their reception during the visit.
He said the conversations showed a renewed commitment to deeper cooperation that goes beyond traditional diplomacy.
The new understanding, he explained, covers important areas that directly affect Kenya’s development goals, especially in health, trade, investment, peace, and regional security. Ruto believes that these expanded commitments will create real and lasting benefits for ordinary Kenyans.
On health, the President said the United States expressed strong support for improving Kenya’s systems, especially in disease surveillance, primary healthcare, and access to modern medical tools.
He stressed that these plans match Kenya’s vision of achieving universal health coverage. He added that such cooperation would help protect lives, strengthen communities, and move the country closer to reliable health security.
With better systems, he noted, Kenya will be better prepared to handle public health challenges in the future.
In trade and investment, Ruto said the discussions opened doors for new industries, growth in African manufacturing, and better access to US markets for Kenyan goods.
He also pointed to Washington’s interest in helping Kenya grow its digital economy and advance clean energy, which he said are important for creating jobs for young people and driving economic progress.
He explained that improved infrastructure and technology support from the US would help Kenya compete globally and attract more investors.
President Ruto also acknowledged the United States’ continued support in matters of peace and stability in the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes region.
He said talks on counter-terrorism, maritime safety, and resolving regional conflicts showed that both sides remain committed to a secure and peaceful neighbourhood.
According to him, this cooperation is necessary for economic growth, safe borders, and long-term stability.
He credited much of the progress to President Trump, saying his leadership played an important role in giving new energy to the partnership.
Ruto said the relationship between the two nations now stands among the most significant on the continent.
He ended by saying Kenya is ready to put the agreements into action and ensure that the gains made in Washington bring real improvements to the lives of its citizens.
