Questions raised over police conduct after disturbing Kikuyu CCTV video goes viral

A disturbing CCTV video showing police officers allegedly assaulting young men inside a pool hall in Kikuyu has caused anger and concern among many Kenyans, especially on social media.

The footage has been widely shared, with viewers questioning the conduct of the officers and the treatment of the youths involved. Many people say the incident reflects a worrying trend of how some law enforcement officers handle civilians.

The video was recorded on the night of Friday, January 23, 2026, inside a small recreational pool hall. At the start of the clip, the atmosphere appears calm as two young men are seen playing pool.

Moments later, three uniformed police officers enter the room. They position themselves around the hall and begin questioning the young men.

The officers then instruct the youths to step aside, changing the mood from relaxed to tense within a short time.

What happens next has shocked many viewers.

One officer is seen hitting one of the young men in the stomach with a baton, while another officer slaps him several times. The second young man is also slapped repeatedly.

The video shows no clear resistance from the youths at the time of the assault. After the confrontation, both young men are handcuffed and escorted out of the pool hall.

Before leaving, the officers are seen collecting pool balls from the table, then leading the two men into a waiting police vehicle outside.

People familiar with the area claim that the officers involved may be attached to Nderi Police Post.

However, this information has not been officially confirmed. By the time the video spread widely online, the National Police Service had not released a statement to explain the officers’ actions or to confirm their identities.

This silence has added to public frustration and speculation.

The incident has revived debate about police behavior in the country.

It comes only about two weeks after another CCTV video from Nandi Hills showed police officers storming a different pool hall and assaulting several young men while demanding identification documents.

That earlier case also caused public anger and drew criticism from political leaders, who called on the Inspector General of Police to take firm action.Human rights groups and concerned citizens are now demanding accountability.

They are calling for thorough investigations into both incidents and for disciplinary action against any officers found to have acted unlawfully.

Many argue that such cases damage public trust in the police and create fear, especially among young people.

Kenyans are increasingly questioning whether enough is being done to address the problem. Many are calling for stronger oversight, better training, and fair enforcement of the law to help rebuild trust between law enforcement officers and the communities they are meant to serve.
