Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka openly criticised President Ruto’s Jamhuri Day speech, describing it as deceptive.
In yet another stinging remark directed at the President, Kalonzo accused Ruto of focusing on the Kenya Kwanza Government’s achievements rather than Kenyans’ issues during his speech.
“It is highly regrettable that instead of the solemn and reflective national address it is supposed to be, the 61st Jamhuri Day message today was a self-congratulatory ode of pipe dreams and misinformation by the president,” Kalonzo said on Thursday evening.
The former vice president also stated that Ruto’s speech was manipulated with falsehoods.
“It did not reflect the vision of our forebearers who sacrificed to free us from the punishing and dehumanising yoke of colonialism.”
Kalonzo further claimed that the Kenya Kwanza Government was inclined to reward those who demonstrated devotion to the rule.
The Wiper Party leader is no new to criticizing Ruto, and he is often regarded as the most outspoken opponent of the President.Ruto and Kalonzo recently traded subtle jibes, primarily on the government’s forthcoming nationwide livestock vaccination campaign.
While Kalonzo accused the President of preparing to deploy harmful vaccines from the United States, Ruto, addressing the Pastoralist Leadership Summit in Wajir County, dismissed his political opponent’s claims as bogus.
Aside from the typical presidential appreciation of Kenya’s history and the struggles of the founding fathers to guarantee Kenya’s independence, President Ruto also spoke extensively about some of his government’s projects.
The President highlighted the country’s food security, the agroindustrial sector, the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, and the sensitive issue of Taifa Care, among other topics.
Ruto also quietly hit out at his critics, encouraging them to criticize the government based on facts, rather than fake news.
“We are at the stage in social development when digital technologies have immense capacity to amplify disinformation, magnify fake news and distort facts beyond all recognition,” he said.
“If we give in to these emerging negative trends, we shall pay with our freedom, democracy and development.”
