Police in Narok are investigating the shocking killing of a 10-year-old pupil at the Seventh Day Adventist Primary and Junior Secondary School.
The boy, a Grade Four student, was found on Sunday morning inside the boys’ toilet with his throat slit, and blood stains covering the floor.
The discovery left parents and residents horrified, and some attempted to set the school on fire before they were stopped by authorities.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations quickly moved to arrest the school’s security guard, who was reportedly found with blood-stained clothes.
He is now in police custody, assisting investigators as they try to piece together how the tragedy unfolded.
The arrest has not yet clarified the motive or full circumstances behind the killing, but it has intensified the anger and fear among the local community.
Residents expressed deep shock and sorrow over the incident. Hassan Ngatia, a resident of Majengo, said, “Ni kisa cha kusikitisha sana kuona mtoto kama huyo anauawa kinyama ndani ya shule.”
Another resident, Veronica Namunyak, added, “Tunataka kujua nani anauwa mtoto hapa ndani. Mtoto wa Class Four sasa anajua nini?”
Their words reflect the fear and disbelief that has gripped Narok, as many struggle to understand how such a young child could be violently attacked within a school, a place meant to be safe.
In response to the incident, the Narok County Education Department ordered the immediate closure of the school. Parents were directed to withdraw their children, with the authorities stressing that safety must be the top priority.
Neighbors also voiced their concern about the lack of security measures, with Mbugua wa Thiki saying, “Tumeshangaa usiku mzima hatukusikia hata nduru. Tuko na hofu kama wazazi.”
The need for reforms has become urgent, as Douglas Masikonte called for stronger security and improvements in school safety, stating, “Baada ya shule hii kufungwa, tunataka mabadiliko, security lights, na hatutaki boarding school hapa tena.”
Tension around the school remains high. Parents continue to demand justice and accountability, calling for swift action against anyone responsible for the death of the child.
The community is also pushing for measures that will ensure no other child suffers a similar fate. The incident has reignited debates about school safety, the effectiveness of security personnel, and the responsibilities of education authorities to protect pupils.
