South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro has responded to a harsh political insult in an unusual way.
A few days after a tense rally in Kisii County, he shared a photo of himself wearing a cap printed with the words “Osoro N’Nyuma.” The same phrase had been used to mock him before a large crowd.
The chants were heard during a rally led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at Gusii Stadium. Supporters repeatedly shouted the slogan as the atmosphere grew tense. In Ekegusii, the phrase suggests that Osoro is at the bottom or not important in local politics.
Clips from the event spread quickly online. In some videos, even the speaker on stage appeared surprised by the loud and persistent chants. Soon after, the slogan began to appear in football matches and street conversations across Kisii.
Osoro, who is serving his second term as MP and is also the National Assembly Chief Whip, has remained a close ally of President William Ruto. His support for the current administration has drawn criticism from some local leaders.
At the rally, he was described as inexperienced and accused of not defending the interests of the Abagusii community strongly enough.
Rather than respond with anger, Osoro chose a calmer approach. He posted a photo smiling alongside two associates. All three wore caps branded with the same phrase that had been used against him.
They appeared relaxed and confident as they posed outdoors beside a white car, bumping fists.
Some political observers believe the move was calculated.
Osoro may have reduced its power and shifted attention back to himself. Others say the tactic could energize his supporters as political activity slowly builds toward the 2027 elections.
Osoro has faced criticism before.
During protests linked to the 2024 Finance Bill, some angry residents reportedly threatened his property after he backed the law.
He has also spoken about enduring insults while staying focused on his duties.
