Oburu Oginga breaks silence, contradicts Ida on Raila’s health amid rising speculation

Speculation over ODM leader Raila Odinga’s health has dominated public discourse in recent days, with many Kenyans growing increasingly concerned over his prolonged absence from the political scene.

However, his elder brother, Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga, has stepped forward to address the swirling rumours and in doing so, contradicted an earlier statement by Raila’s wife, Ida Odinga.

In a move aimed at calming anxious supporters, Oburu confirmed that the former Prime Minister had indeed been unwell, but was now steadily recuperating.

He assured Kenyans that Raila is currently in India resting and receiving care, dismissing exaggerated claims about his condition.

This update comes just days after Ida Odinga issued a statement claiming that Raila was “fine and resting,” but did not disclose any details about his health status or whereabouts.

Her brief remarks had done little to stop the rumour mill, with many questioning the lack of photographic or video evidence.Oburu’s direct update, delivered via a Facebook video post, offered a much-needed sense of clarity.

In the footage, Raila is seen seated and relaxed, speaking to a visitor which further eased fears about the state of his health.

“We don’t want Kenyans to panic. “Baba is recovering and will be back soon.”

The contradiction between Oburu and Ida’s statements, however, has left some supporters confused, sparking renewed debate online.

Critics argue that the public deserves consistent updates, given Raila’s central role in national politics.

With Raila expected to make a return to the public eye soon, this latest development underscores the importance of transparency when it comes to matters concerning high-profile leaders.
