New twist in Kibaki estate case as secret assets and paternity claims emerge

A legal battle over the estate of former Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki has intensified, with fresh claims challenging the family’s assertion that he was worth Sh50 million.

The dispute has brought renewed attention to the late leader’s financial legacy, as court documents suggest his wealth may have been understated.

Kibaki’s children Judith Wanjiku, James Mark Kibaki, David Kagai Kibaki, and Anthony Githinji Kibaki filed succession documents indicating that their father left behind an estate valued at less than Sh50 million.

However, a woman identified as JNL, who claims to be Kibaki’s daughter, has contested this valuation, arguing that the former president’s wealth was far greater.

JNL alleges that Kibaki was a major shareholder and director in several blue-chip companies, including Roirie Investment Company Limited, which holds significant shares in International House Limited.

She contends that these assets were not disclosed in the succession filing, raising questions about the true extent of Kibaki’s estate.

The succession case has taken a dramatic turn, with JNL accusing Kibaki’s children of deliberately withholding information about his wealth.

She claims to have conducted independent searches that reveal Kibaki’s majority stake in Roirie Investment Limited, a fact she argues was intentionally omitted from court filings.

Another claimant, Jacob Ocholla, has stepped forward, asserting that he is Kibaki’s biological son and demanding recognition as a rightful heir.

Ocholla has challenged the validity of Kibaki’s 2016 will, alleging inconsistencies in signatures and gaps in the document that could indicate tampering.

Kibaki’s children have dismissed the claims, arguing that the allegations lack credible evidence. They have also opposed DNA testing, rejecting requests for sibling verification and the exhumation of Kibaki’s remains for paternity confirmation.
