Former police spokesperson Charles Owino has ignited a fresh political debate by stating that former Attorney General Justin Muturi was not fired from his Cabinet position but resigned voluntarily.
Owino, who now serves as the head of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), suggested that Muturi might be preparing to contest for the Embu Governor seat in the future.
His remarks have drawn mixed reactions, with some questioning Muturi’s political strategy while others doubt Owino’s understanding of Embu politics.Brethren Kenya Media was blunt in its criticism, calling Muturi a confused politician.
Some individuals, like Ben, accused people of engaging in blind political loyalty rather than focusing on the real issues. Muriuki advised against making uninformed statements about regional politics, suggesting that Owino might not fully understand the political realities in Embu.
Another commentator, Koini, made a sarcastic remark implying that Owino might soon be seeking his own government position. Maina, on the other hand, outrightly dismissed the idea of Muturi becoming governor, insisting that Embu’s current leadership is performing well.
Owino’s statement raises key questions about Muturi’s future in politics and the actual circumstances that led to his Cabinet exit.
If Owino’s claims are true, then it could mean that Muturi intentionally stepped down to focus on his political ambitions in Embu. However, if he was forced out, then his chances in Embu politics might be affected, as he could be perceived as a politician who failed at the national level.
Embu’s political scene is already complicated, with different factions competing for control. If Muturi is indeed planning to run for governor, he will have to contend with strong opponents, some of whom might have better grassroots support.
His past political experience could be an advantage, but he will also need to convince Embu residents that he is the right person to lead them. Some might see him as an outsider trying to return to county politics after serving in national government, which could make it difficult for him to gain acceptance.

At the same time, the mixed reactions from Kenyans indicate that his political reputation is not settled. While some may view him as a capable leader, others see him as indecisive.
Owino’s comments have only added fuel to the discussion, making it more difficult to predict what Muturi’s next move will be. If he does declare his candidacy, he will have to work hard to build support and overcome the skepticism surrounding him.
Whether his resignation was strategic or not, his political journey is now under public scrutiny, and only time will tell if he can succeed in his ambitions.
