Mount Kenya politics put Wamuchomba’s Governor ambition at risk over Gachagua feud

Herman Manyora has raised concerns about the political future of Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, warning that her ambition to become Kiambu governor in 2027 could easily fail if she continues clashing with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

In his view, Wamuchomba was once among the politicians who had a strong chance of unseating the current governor, Kimani Wamatangi, but her ongoing attacks against Gachagua have weakened her position in the Mount Kenya region.

Manyora explained that Wamuchomba’s early political strength came partly from her close ties with Gachagua. He argued that being seen as an ally of a powerful figure in the region gave her credibility and support from both voters and other leaders.

However, things have now changed as she appears to be working against him, and this is a political gamble that could cost her dearly.

According to Manyora, Gachagua remains highly influential in Mount Kenya, and anyone who positions themselves against him risks losing political ground.

He compared the situation in Mount Kenya to what has been witnessed in Nyanza over the years.

In that region, many politicians who have openly fought Raila Odinga rarely succeed politically, as the community stands firmly behind him.

Manyora said the same applies today in Mount Kenya, where Gachagua commands loyalty and respect.

For any politician to win, especially in high-stakes contests like the governor’s race, aligning with him is almost unavoidable.

Wamuchomba’s role in the Kenya Moja caucus also came into focus.

Manyora observed that there are suspicions the group was formed with the hidden intention of reducing Gachagua’s influence in Mount Kenya.

Some also believe it is meant to confuse the opposition, making it easier for President William Ruto to secure another term in 2027.

Wamuchomba could be sending the wrong signals to voters who still view Gachagua as their main political defender.

Manyora emphasized that politics is about strategy, alliances, and proper timing. He noted that Wamuchomba may have miscalculated by confronting a leader who still has deep roots in the region.

He added that the people of Kiambu and the larger Mount Kenya bloc are watching her closely, and any move that appears as a betrayal of Gachagua may destroy her future prospects.

In his conclusion, Manyora stated clearly that unless Wamuchomba changes her approach, her dream of becoming Kiambu governor might not materialize.

He stressed that in politics, speaking boldly is not enough; success depends on knowing who to stand with and when to shift positions.
