Mohammed Abduba Dida reemerges as podcaster and spiritual mentor after US prison

Mohammed Abduba Dida has reappeared online with a completely new mission months after leaving prison in the United States.

The former presidential candidate has now introduced himself as a podcaster and spiritual mentor, marking a major shift from his past political life.

Dida’s return has drawn attention because of how different his new direction is from the image many Kenyans once knew. Living in Minnesota, he recently shared a video that spread quickly on social media, showing him speaking calmly about his new purpose.

He explained that he has begun podcasting and is working to revive a charity organisation he created in 2017. He said this change comes from what he believes is a strong personal calling.

He also revealed that he is looking for office space in Minnesota to restart the charity’s activities and strengthen his spiritual outreach.Using new social media accounts,

Dida has started presenting his platform as a global spiritual initiative. In one of his messages, he spoke directly to Kenyans, urging them to rise above political, tribal, and religious differences. He said that people around the world need spiritual guidance, and such a responsibility cannot fall on one individual.

He called on Kenyans to join him in sharing wisdom and support with the wider world. His transformation follows his release from the Big Muddy Correctional Centre, where he was serving a seven-year sentence for charges including stalking, transmitting threats, aggravated stalking, and violating a restraining order.

Court documents showed that he was jailed in July 2021 after being found guilty of going against a restraining order obtained by his wife. According to his family, Dida visited a prayer centre near his estranged wife’s home, not knowing that the visit violated U.S. laws tied to restraining orders.

Dida was paroled in April 2025 after serving three years of his sentence. He is now allowed to remain outside prison until his official release date in April 2029.

His current life is very different from the days when he was known for his sharp humour, straight talk, and unique style during presidential campaigns. He had moved to the U.S. in 2019 to continue his studies, where he later married an American citizen, although the marriage faced serious challenges.

With his new identity as a podcaster and spiritual guide, Dida appears focused on rebuilding his life and reshaping his public image. His message now centres on healing, unity, and a global outlook, marking a major shift from his once vibrant political career.
