Millicent Omanga responds after dismissal from state corporation role

Former nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has been removed from her position as a board member of Kenya Shipyards Limited following the latest round of government restructuring.

The decision was formalized through a gazette notice issued by Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya, who confirmed the revocation of Omanga’s appointment effective April 30, 2026.

The announcement indicated that the action was taken in accordance with the State Corporations Act, which regulates the appointments and dismissals within state agencies.

Her departure signifies an immediate conclusion to her role in overseeing the state-owned enterprise, which is integral to Kenya’s maritime and industrial development initiatives

Omanga’s dismissal occurred months after she publicly expressed her political affiliation with the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, a move that had already drawn political scrutiny.

These changes are part of a wider governmental restructuring that has involved numerous appointments and reappointments within various state agencies.

In separate official notices, President Ruto extended the terms of members of the Advocates’ Complaints Commission and reappointed Ngeny Biwott as Chairperson of the Kenya National Accreditation Service Board for an additional three years.

Additionally, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen confirmed Gilbert Benjamin Kitiyo’s appointment as Principal Registrar of the National Registration Bureau, solidifying a position that had been previously announced.

Further adjustments also took place within the East African Community sector, where Dr. Nkaesha Naikuni was reappointed to the Ewaso Ng’iro South River Basin Development Authority Board.

These recent changes highlight the ongoing shifts within governmental organizations as leadership frameworks continue to adapt.
