Man with panga shot dead after storming Kakamega police station

Fear and confusion gripped a police station in Kakamega County on Monday after a man armed with a panga caused a dramatic scene.

Witnesses described how the man walked in visibly angry and began threatening police officers who were on duty.

He raised the weapon and shouted that he was prepared to cut down any officer who ignored him.The man’s anger was directed at the arrest of his friends, who had earlier been detained for alleged criminal activities in the region.

He insisted that they were innocent and demanded that they be released immediately.

In his rage, he warned the officers that no one inside the station would come out alive if his demand was not met.

At one point, he reportedly shouted, “If you don’t open the cells now, all of you will regret,” sending shockwaves through the station.

Reports indicated that officers on duty became unsettled as the man’s threats grew louder. Some attempted to calm him down, but he refused to listen.

He even began counting minutes, warning that once time was up, he would start attacking them one by one. The situation became tense, with fear spreading among both officers and witnesses who watched the unfolding drama. In the middle of the chaos, one officer made a move that changed the course of events.

Taking advantage of the man’s focus on the officers in front of him, the officer carefully approached from behind without being noticed. In a quick attempt to save his colleagues from danger, he fired his weapon, shooting the man who fell and died instantly.

Relief immediately spread through the station after minutes of fear and tension. The man’s body was later taken to a nearby morgue in Kakamega County.

Police said they had opened investigations to determine whether the man was mentally unstable or if the act was planned deliberately.

They promised to give more details after the investigations are completed. The incident has left residents disturbed, with many questioning how far desperation or anger can push someone to openly threaten armed officers inside a police station.

It also highlighted the dangers that police officers face daily, not only from organized crime but also from individuals willing to risk their lives in violent confrontations.

For the officers who were caught in the moment, it was a frightening reminder of how quickly a normal day at work can turn into a life-threatening situation.
