Kenya stuns Morocco with ten-man victory to top CHAN Group A

The Harambee Stars secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Morocco in the African Nations Championship at a fully packed Kasarani Stadium, with more than 40,000 fans cheering them on.

The victory saw Kenya finish top of Group A in a tense and memorable match.

Ryan Ogam scored the only goal in the 42nd minute, finishing off a well-worked move to give Kenya the lead.

However, the game took a difficult turn just before half-time when midfielder Chrispine Erambo was sent off with a straight red card for a dangerous tackle, leaving Kenya with 10 men for the second consecutive match.

Coach Benni McCarthy had made bold decisions before the game, dropping key players such as captain Omar Aboud and creative midfielder Austine Odhiambo in favour of a reshuffled line-up.

The changes seemed to work as Kenya stayed disciplined, absorbing Morocco’s heavy possession and defending with determination.

The team remained compact, cutting off passing lanes and frustrating the tournament favourites.

Morocco pushed hard in the second half, creating several chances, but goalkeeper Bryne Omondi and the Kenyan defence stood firm to protect the lead.

The win was met with loud celebrations from the fans, who applauded the team’s resilience and fighting spirit.

Despite being a man down, the Harambee Stars showed composure and tactical discipline to keep Morocco from scoring.

With this result, Kenya heads into the knockout stages with confidence, having proven they can compete against some of the continent’s best sides.

It was a statement victory, built on hard work, unity, and a belief that they could overcome the odds.

The players and coaching staff will now turn their focus to the next stage, knowing the competition will only get tougher.
