‘It’s Been 5 Days …!’ CNN’s Madowo blasts Ruto over failed abduction promise

Five days after President William Ruto told Kenyans that he would put an end to abductions in the country, the six young people kidnapped over the Christmas holiday remain missing.

Ruto spoke in Homa Bay on Friday, December 27, last year, promising a stop to the abductions while also telling parents to “take responsibility” for their children.

“We are going to stop the abductions so that our youth can live peacefully,” he asserted.

Following the commitment, a number of Kenyans have criticized Ruto for failing to keep it.

Journalist Larry Madowo has chastised Ruto for failing to deliver on his pledge and questioned why the investigation was taking longer, putting the families on hold.

Larry Madowo wrote on his official X page on Wednesday that, while the rest of the world is celebrating the new year, the families of the six abducted youngsters are unable to do so calmly since they do not know where their children are.

“It’s been 5 days since President Ruto promised to end abductions in Kenya. Families of the dozens still missing are waiting for him to keep his word,” Madowo pointed out.

Kangundo MP Fabian Kyule, on his part, urged the Director of Criminal Investigations to speed the probe into the whereabouts of the boys, who have been missing for over a fortnight.

“On this matter, we stand and condemn it, and we are calling on the DCI to move faster, we need to get the proper information, and we need to understand whether people are doing this to defame the work of government, before the January 15, we need to understand what is happening,” the MP said.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his friends also put pressure on the President, urging him to oversee the release of the abducted youths and keep his commitment.

Gachagua requested that the youths be returned to their families, whether dead or alive, in order to achieve closure.

“To live up to your words, Mr President, make sure those children are released to their parents before the new year.

If they are killed, release their bodies to their parents so they can bury them and have closure,” the former DP said.

On Monday, December 30, High Court Judge Bahati Mwamuye granted IG Douglas Kanja seven days to bring the six abducted boys to court.

Gideon Kibet, Bernard Kavuli, Peter Muteti, Billy Mwangi, Rony Kiplangat, and Steve Kavingo went missing in December 2024 after being abducted for posting anti-Ruto information online.
