He sent my classmate, Moses Wetangula to come and plead with me to accept the offer~Justin Muturi

Former Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi recently spoke to NTV Kenya and shared his side of the story following some accusations made by President William Ruto.

According to Muturi, the president had told journalists from the Mt Kenya region that Muturi had failed to carry out some of his duties, and this was the reason he was removed from the Cabinet.

The president also claimed that Muturi had complained about facing challenges in the Office of the Attorney General.

In the interview, Muturi said that it is true he was once considered for the position of Attorney General, but he had turned down the offer. He explained that he had no interest in returning to a job that would involve a lot of reading and writing.

He said that during his time as Speaker of the National Assembly under President Uhuru Kenyatta, he had done enough of that kind of work.

Muturi felt that it was time to move on from such a role, and for that reason, he did not want to take the AG position.

Despite turning down the offer, Muturi said that President Ruto did not give up.

The president personally followed up and even sent Moses Wetangula, the current Speaker of the National Assembly, to convince him to accept the Attorney General job.

Muturi revealed that Wetangula is actually his former classmate, and the president thought that this would help persuade him.

But even with all that effort, Muturi remained firm and still refused the offer. He said that it was not about disrespecting the president or rejecting the government but simply a personal decision based on what he felt was right for him at the time.

The former CS believes that his refusal may have created some tension, and it could be one of the reasons the president is now portraying him in a negative light. Muturi insisted that he had done his part in serving the country and does not regret any of the decisions he made.

He also mentioned that people should understand that declining a job should not be seen as betrayal or laziness but rather as making a choice based on one’s own capacity and vision.

His statement now raises more questions about how Cabinet appointments are handled and whether personal choices are respected within the current administration.
