Govt responds after TikTokers reveal plans to build modern hospital

Dennis Itumbi has expressed strong support for a plan by Kenyan TikTok creators to establish a modern hospital that will offer free healthcare to the public.

The idea, which has been gaining ground online, was presented during a TikTok creators’ workshop held at Glee Hotel in Kiambu.

Itumbi, who serves as the Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Coordination, praised the proposal, calling it both “brilliant” and in line with President William Ruto’s vision of expanding healthcare access across the country.

He explained that history shows how community-driven efforts have achieved great milestones, noting how faith-based institutions successfully built hospitals through collective contributions.

According to Itumbi, content creators can mirror the same approach by using their platforms and influence to mobilize resources for the greater good.

He also highlighted that the government is already working on healthcare expansion, citing the ongoing construction of 70 hospitals nationwide by the Kenya Defence Forces as part of Ruto’s pledge to provide affordable healthcare.

The idea of building a hospital was inspired by the story of 17-year-old TikToker Kaluma Boy, who touched the hearts of many after documenting his journey of taking care of his father, a stroke survivor.

His emotional videos attracted national attention, leading to hundreds of Kenyans visiting his home in Othaya, Nyeri County, to offer both moral and financial support.

The young creator’s courage quickly became a rallying point, prompting fellow TikTokers to imagine a long-lasting solution that could help other families facing similar struggles.

The hospital plan has since been described as a timely and much-needed intervention, especially at a time when Kenya’s public health sector is facing numerous challenges.

Many health facilities continue to struggle with inadequate staff, frequent medicine shortages, and strained infrastructure that leave patients with limited options for proper care.

A modern hospital built from the unity of young creators and their supporters could provide a lifeline to communities in need while setting a new standard for how social media influence can be transformed into real development.

Itumbi stressed that the government welcomes such innovative partnerships and sees them as a way of bridging gaps in the system.

He pointed out that digital platforms like TikTok have moved beyond entertainment and now carry the power to shape society by addressing real challenges.

For him, this initiative reflects the spirit of innovation that the government seeks to encourage among young people.

If the plan is successfully implemented, the hospital will stand as a milestone in Kenya’s digital journey, showing that creativity and influence can go hand in hand with service to humanity.

It would not only be a place of healing but also a symbol of what can be achieved when technology, compassion, and community come together to solve pressing national issues.
