Geoffrey Mosiria claims demotion followed crackdown on unlawful developments

Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has spoken out about his recent demotion from the environment docket, shedding light on what he calls the “untouchables” behind his transfer.

Speaking on Monday, Mosiria said his demotion was no surprise, insisting it resulted from his strict enforcement actions against unlawful developments that clashed with the interests of influential figures.

“I indeed trampled on those who are untouchable, I trampled on the untouchables until some of them got irritated by me, but I do not fear man, I only fear God, who is powerful,” he revealed.

Mosiria recounted how he stopped numerous illegal constructions in the county, including one belonging to a wealthy and influential individual, which sparked heavy backlash.

He also cited clashes with large clubs involved in unlawful activities around Nairobi.

He emphasized that his actions, including closing illegal clubs and private developments, were motivated by public interest and not politics.

“I am still working to help the people. When I entered the environment office, people thought it was small, but they soon saw its size and importance,” Mosiria said.

The demotion came two weeks after Governor Johnson Sakaja reshuffled county leadership, assigning Mosiria to citizen engagement and customer services. Hibram Otieno, formerly in charge of medical facilities, took over the environment docket.

Despite the shift, Mosiria vowed that his focus on serving Nairobi residents remains unchanged. He added that the change in role would not deter his commitment to enforcing county regulations and protecting public interest.
