Dr Fred Matiangi’s plane to touch down at JKIA as he moves to face Ruto in 2027 Presidential race

According to reports by NTV, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i is expected to return to Kenya this week as he prepares to officially launch his 2027 presidential campaign.

His flight is expected to arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) just before the Easter holidays.

Sources close to his team say that once he lands, he plans to meet Jubilee Party officials, supporters, and other leaders to lay the groundwork for his campaign activities across the country.

Dr. Matiang’i’s comeback has already drawn national attention, especially after the Jubilee Party, led by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, declared its full support for him.

Jubilee’s Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni praised Matiang’i’s record in public service, saying he had shown strong leadership in sectors such as education, security, and health.

Kioni stated that the party believes Matiang’i has what it takes to challenge President William Ruto and provide a new direction for the country.

Jubilee has also started registering supporters across the country and claims to have signed up more than 7 million members.

The party says this is a clear sign that Kenyans are ready for change. To build more strength ahead of the 2027 elections, Kioni has reached out to other political parties.

One of them is the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), which has a strong base in Kisii County, Matiang’i’s home region.

However, tension has started to rise as some UPA leaders claim that Matiang’i should be their presidential candidate instead of Jubilee’s.

This dispute has led to confusion, but leaders from both sides are continuing with behind-the-scenes talks aimed at creating a united opposition front.

Dr. Matiang’i’s return is being viewed as a key moment in Kenya’s political landscape. His supporters believe he can unite the opposition and provide a serious challenge to President Ruto, especially if he manages to bring together multiple parties and communities under one coalition.

Although no official campaign events have been announced yet, insiders say plans are in place for public rallies, media engagements, and a formal manifesto launch in the coming months.

As Kenya moves closer to the 2027 general election, all eyes will be on Dr. Matiang’i to see how he positions himself and whether he can maintain the support he’s already gaining.

His experience in government and his close ties to former President Kenyatta give him a strong platform, but the political road ahead is likely to be tough and filled with both opportunities and challenges.
