CCTV footage has now confirmed the heartbreaking final moments of a delivery rider who unknowingly walked into a deadly trap.
The incident happened on Tuesday morning, November 18, when Olwal, a hardworking father of three, left a Nairobi shop to deliver an iPhone to a client at Meridian Apartments in South B. What was supposed to be a normal job quickly turned into a situation that cost him his life.
The early information shows that Olwal did not know the apartment he was going to was not a normal residence but a temporary AirBnB rental that had been booked by unknown suspects.
According to the details released so far, the suspects allegedly murdered him inside the apartment and left his body in the bedroom.
The delivery he was completing was meant to be a routine transaction, similar to the many he had done in the past. Investigators say the order was placed on WhatsApp by a man who claimed to be in Eldoret.
This man directed the seller to send the phone to someone identified as Hilary, who was said to be staying at a guesthouse in the Sana Sana area.
The leaked chats shared by investigators show the buyer bargaining for the price of the iPhone 17 Pro Max before agreeing on a final amount of KSh 220,000.
In the midst of this unfolding tragedy, Olwal’s wife, Eunice, shared the last conversation she had with him before he left home for the delivery.
She explained that everything seemed normal, and he did not express any concerns or fears.
The worry set in later when the family noticed that both of his phone numbers were unreachable around noon.
They tried calling repeatedly, hoping it was a network issue or that he was simply busy.
The worst news came several hours later when his lifeless body was discovered in Room 14 on the fourth floor of the apartment building.
People at the scene reported visible blood inside the room, painting a picture of a violent and terrifying end.
His death has triggered public anger on social media, with many Kenyans demanding stronger measures to protect delivery workers who often enter unknown environments in the course of their work.
Authorities have now launched a nationwide search for the suspects involved in the killing. Police are urging anyone who might have information to help in identifying or locating the perpetrators.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the apartment and reviewing all digital communication linked to the order.
They hope these leads will help them track down the people responsible for the murder and deliver justice for Olwal and his grieving family.
