Former Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru has moved to dismiss claims that she has abandoned former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s camp in favour of President William Ruto’s administration.
Speculation over Waruguru’s political alignment gained traction on Friday, January 16, after several social media accounts linked to government supporters alleged that she had crossed over to the ruling side.
The claims quickly circulated across various social media platforms, with some government bloggers portraying her as the latest Mt Kenya politician to sever ties with Gachagua.
In response, Waruguru issued a cryptic but firm message on her social media pages on Friday evening, rubbishing the reports and portraying them as the work of political opponents.
The former lawmaker suggested that the rumours were driven by misinformation and online propaganda, urging her supporters to ignore what she described as fake narratives being pushed by government-aligned bloggers.
She accused the government side of working overtime to paint a false picture of her political position.
“Tafadhali, I am observing January prayer and fasting. My political enemies seem to be running in different directions. My fans, happy weekend. Ignore the fake Singaporean bloggers. Wakwende kabisa,” the former Laikipia Woman Representive stayed.
Waruguru’s response comes against the backdrop of growing political shifts within the Mt Kenya region.
In recent days, Juja MP George Koimburi publicly parted ways with Gachagua, adding momentum to talk of an exodus from the former deputy president’s camp.
Several of Gachagua’s former allies, including Ngunjiri Wambugu, Kimani Ngunjiri, Mary Wamau and Peter Irungu Kihungi, have also distanced themselves from him despite previously backing him, even during his impeachment period.
Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has similarly broken ranks, emerging as one of Gachagua’s sharpest critics after once being among his strongest defenders.
