Ally Ahmed Ally in police custody over alleged Ksh.49.4 million land transaction scam

Police have arrested Nairobi-based advocate Ally Ahmed Ally over claims that he stole Ksh.49.4 million that had been entrusted to him to facilitate the purchase of a parcel of land in Nairobi.

The lawyer is now under investigation after detectives alleged that the money was diverted for personal use instead of completing the intended transaction.

The arrest was carried out by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Nairobi Regional Office within Kilimani sub-county.

Investigators say the advocate is being investigated for the offence of stealing by an agent following complaints linked to the failed land deal.

According to the DCI, Ally Ahmed Ally practises under the law firm Rasheed Rage and Nassir Advocates.

Detectives allege that a client entrusted him with Ksh.49,400,500 to facilitate the purchase of a parcel of land in the capital.

The money was reportedly sent to him on different dates between November 16, 2023 and January 3, 2024.

Investigators say the funds were released with the clear understanding that they would be used to complete the land transaction.

However, they allege that the purchase was never completed and that the advocate instead diverted the money for his own personal use.

The case was investigated by detectives attached to the DCI Nairobi Regional Office, who later moved in and arrested the suspect after gathering evidence.

He is currently being held in police custody as officers complete the necessary procedures before presenting him in court.

The DCI said the advocate is expected to be arraigned once the processing is complete. He is set to face charges of stealing by an agent contrary to Section 283(b) of the Penal Code.

The case adds to a growing number of investigations involving alleged misuse of clients’ money in professional transactions.

Authorities have maintained that anyone entrusted with handling funds on behalf of another person must account for every shilling and that those found to have abused that trust will face the law.

The allegations against Ally Ahmed Ally are yet to be tested in court, where he will have an opportunity to respond to the charges.

Investigations into the matter remain ongoing as detectives prepare to formally present the case before the court.
