Kenyans to pay same fuel prices until mid-August after EPRA review

Kenyans will continue paying the same fuel prices for the next month after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced that pump prices will remain unchanged from July 15, 2026, to August 14, 2026.

The decision is expected to bring some relief to motorists, businesses and households that depend on fuel for daily activities.

According to EPRA, the maximum allowed pump prices for Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene will remain the same during the new pricing cycle.

In Nairobi, Super Petrol will continue retailing at Ksh214.03 per litre, while Diesel will sell at Ksh222.86 per litre and Kerosene at Ksh191.38 per litre.

The regulator said the stability in fuel prices has been supported by government measures aimed at shielding consumers from fluctuations in the international oil market.

One of the key measures is the extension of the 8 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) on petroleum products for another three months up to October 2026.

The government also disclosed that it used Ksh945 million from the Petroleum Development Levy (PDL) Fund to help keep pump prices stable across the country. This intervention has helped prevent consumers from feeling the full impact of changes in global fuel markets.

EPRA noted that the average landed cost of imported fuel products fell significantly during the review period.

The average landed cost of Super Petrol dropped by 21 per cent in June to Ksh115,070 per cubic metre from about Ksh146,250 per cubic metre in May. Diesel also recorded a decline of 19.8 per cent, falling to Ksh127,700 per cubic metre from approximately Ksh143,800 per cubic metre.

Kerosene followed the same trend, dropping by 11.7 per cent to Ksh133,370 per cubic metre from around Ksh150,990 per cubic metre in May.

The regulator further indicated that the exchange rate used in the pricing review averaged Ksh129.72 against the US dollar. The relatively stable exchange rate helped support the decision to maintain existing fuel prices.

Across other towns, fuel prices will also remain unchanged. In Mombasa, motorists will pay Ksh210.87 per litre for Super Petrol, Ksh219.58 for Diesel and Ksh188.09 for Kerosene.

In Nakuru, the prices will remain at Ksh212.92, Ksh222.27 and Ksh190.81 respectively.Motorists in Eldoret, Kisumu and Kakamega will continue paying Ksh213.69 per litre for Super Petrol, Ksh223.09 for Diesel and Ksh191.63 for Kerosene.

In Kericho, Super Petrol will retail at Ksh213.67, Diesel at Ksh223.05 and Kerosene at Ksh191.59 per litre. The latest decision is likely to be welcomed by public transport operators, manufacturers and many other Kenyans who had been concerned about a possible increase in fuel costs.

The new prices take effect at midnight on July 15 and will remain in force until August 14, when EPRA carries out its next monthly fuel price review.
