Tragic road accident has reportedly claimed the lives of seven people after a Toyota Voxy they were travelling in was involved in a collision with a trailer that is said to have lost its brakes along the Narok–Mai Mahiu road at Duka Moja, about 30 kilometres from Narok town.
The crash occurred between Ntulele and Duka Moja, leaving all the occupants of the Voxy dead at the scene.
The severity of the impact meant there were no survivors from the smaller vehicle.
Witnesses described the scene as devastating, saying the trailer struck the vehicle with immense force before both came to a halt along the busy highway.
The accident caused a major disruption along the route as motorists slowed down to assess the situation.
Emergency responders later arrived at the scene and began coordinating recovery operations.
Images and videos obtained from the scene showed the wreckage of the Toyota Voxy extensively damaged, with the vehicle badly mangled following the collision.
Authorities were yet to issue an official statement on the exact circumstances of the crash, including confirmation of the cause and the identities of the victims.
However, initial reports from the scene indicate that brake failure on the trailer may have contributed to the accident.
The stretch of road between Narok and Mai Mahiu has in the past been associated with serious accidents, often involving heavy commercial vehicles and passenger vehicles sharing the same route.
The latest incident has once again raised concerns over road safety along the busy corridor.
Motorists using the highway were advised to exercise caution as recovery and clearance operations continued at the scene.
Traffic flow was affected as emergency teams worked to remove the wreckage and restore normal movement along the road.
Residents and passersby who arrived shortly after the crash expressed shock at the extent of the damage, noting that the impact appeared severe.
Some described the scene as distressing, with debris scattered along the roadside.
