Arrests fail to calm Litein Boys students as calls grow for principal’s removal

Litein Boys High School is once again facing questions about discipline and safety after an incident that has left many parents and teachers worried about the future of their children.

What started as a simple disagreement between students and the administration on the night of September 21 turned into a chaotic situation that has attracted national attention.

According to details shared at a parents’ meeting on September 29, the unrest quickly turned from a protest into shocking acts of destruction and misconduct that surprised even the most experienced staff members.

The dispute began when students were denied a chance to watch an English Premier League match.

What might have been a minor issue instead grew into something much bigger, with learners taking to vandalism as a form of protest. The destruction that followed forced the school to close its doors, as it was no longer safe to continue with normal activities.

Parents who gathered for the meeting expressed anger, disappointment, and fear over what the actions of a section of students might mean for the institution’s reputation and the well-being of those who had nothing to do with the chaos.

Perhaps the most disturbing incident of that night involved a female teacher whose house was broken into during the disorder.

When she returned later, she found her belongings scattered, with some missing and others damaged. Investigations showed that the students responsible not only stole from her but also openly paraded with her personal items around the compound, an act that teachers and parents strongly condemned as humiliating and highly disrespectful.

For many, this was proof that discipline at the school had fallen to an alarming level.

Parents reminded the administration that this was not the first case of unrest at Litein Boys High School. They pointed to a growing pattern over the past two years, with repeated cases of indiscipline that have put the school under the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.

With national examinations just around the corner, parents fear that continued disruption could harm the academic performance of candidates preparing for their KCSE.

They argued that if left unaddressed, such behavior could compromise the future of many hardworking students who want nothing more than to succeed in their studies.

CCTV footage from the night helped security officers identify some of the culprits, leading to the arrest of ten students who were believed to have played a central role in the destruction.

Even so, calm has not fully returned to the school. Reports indicate that some students have continued to issue threats, demanding the removal of the current principal as a condition to end the unrest. This has created further tension, leaving the administration in a delicate position.Parents have now appealed directly to the Ministry of Education and other authorities to step in and provide long-term solutions.

They believe that without strong intervention, discipline will continue to erode, and the academic environment at Litein Boys will suffer. For many families, the hope is that the government will act quickly to restore order and protect the future of learners who deserve a safe and stable place to study.
