Narok Senator turns spotlight on Executive over Health Fund corruption claims

Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has once again stirred debate after strongly questioning the credibility of the Social Health Insurance Fund and demanding that the real truth behind it be revealed.

His remarks have pushed the ongoing national conversation on corruption into an even sharper focus, coming at a time when Kenyans are already raising concerns over accountability in government institutions.

The Senator insists that Kenyans are being misled into believing the fund is meant to improve healthcare when in reality it is serving the interests of a select few.In a post he shared online, Olekina claimed that the fund has been captured by powerful figures who are not known to the public but are benefiting immensely from it.

He stated that ordinary citizens are being used as a cover for shady dealings that only make rich individuals even richer.

He described the situation as one of the most dangerous forms of corruption, since it directly exploits the health needs of the people.

According to him, this is a betrayal to Kenyans who continue to suffer under the promise of better healthcare services. His remarks came only a few days after President William Ruto openly accused Members of Parliament and Senators of being at the heart of corruption.

The President’s words caused uproar in Parliament, with several legislators strongly defending themselves against the allegations.

Instead of defending fellow lawmakers, Olekina chose to turn the spotlight back on the Executive, saying that corruption in Kenya is not only about legislators but also those in the highest offices of government.

He boldly hinted that the so-called “most corrupt boss in Kenya” is seated at the very top of leadership.

The Senator’s choice of words has divided public opinion, especially on social media. Many Kenyans have praised him for boldly exposing what they see as hidden truths that no one else wants to talk about.

Others, however, believe his remarks are more about political games than real concern for healthcare reforms.

To them, Olekina might simply be using the issue to shift focus away from Parliament’s own failures after Ruto’s direct accusations.

What stands out is that the Social Health Insurance Fund, which was meant to symbolize progress in healthcare, is now at the center of a corruption storm.

Billions of shillings meant to support the sick and poor are in question, and Olekina’s words have only deepened suspicion about how the money is managed.

Kenyans are increasingly demanding that both Parliament and the Executive come clean on who the real beneficiaries are.

Until this happens, the fund will remain clouded by mistrust and controversy, and the public will continue wondering whether it was designed for their benefit or for the enrichment of a few individuals at the expense of the suffering majority.
